1.  The Driving Licence and Your Eyesight

  • The pupil must be in possession of a current valid driving licence and must produce this at the beginning of the first lesson.  The pupil must also bring with them a printout which details any points that may have been endorsed on their licence.  If the pupil is unable to print off a copy of this form, they must bring their National Insurance number with them to the first lesson and our instructor can access the online record for them.  Click here to view your driving licence information
  • If the pupil does not yet have a valid driving licence, one must be applied for and be in the possession of the pupil before the course commences.  Apply for a provisional licence by clicking here.
  • The pupil is required to be able to read a number plate from the distance currently specified by the DVSA.  An eyesight check is undertaken at the commencement of the course and if the pupil cannot read the number plate, we may be unable to allow them to drive.  It is therefore recommended that the pupil checks their eyesight before booking a course.  If corrective vision glasses or contact lenses are required please ensure these are worn for all lessons.

2.  Payment

  • A non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking all courses with the balance payable in cash direct to your driving instructor at the beginning of the first day of the course.  Please see course information for details of the deposit payable.
  • Deposits can be taken over the phone or you can pay using the PayPal button on our website where payments can be made with a debit or credit card or by using a PayPal account.  However, a PayPal account is not required to use this service.
  • Once payment has been accepted for a course, the course must be completed within 6 months of the date of the booking.  If the pupil is unable to start and complete the course within this timeframe, and our fees have increased, we reserve the right to adjust the course fee accordingly.
  • Following payment of the deposit, an email will be sent to the pupil’s nominated email account (or in the case of a booking made by a third party, to the third party’s nominated email account) confirming details of the course and the start date.
  • Our 4 to 8 day courses require a second deposit to be paid 3 weeks prior to the course start date.
  • The balance of the course fee is to be paid in cash to the instructor at the start of the first day of the course.
  • Following payment of your deposit you have 24 hour cooling off period.  Should you decide to cancel your booking during this cooling off period you must notify us by email to sam@intensivetuition.co.uk.  Such notice must be received by us within 24 hours of payment of your deposit.  If the deposit is received after 7.00pm (Monday to Sunday inclusive) the 24 hour cooling off period will start from 8.00am the next day.  The deposit, less a £20 administration charge, will be refunded to the original method of payment within 7 days.

3.  Failure to Pay the Balance of the Course Fee

  • If the pupil does not pay the balance of the course fee to the instructor at the start of the first day of the course, the instructor reserves the right to cancel the training scheduled for that day.  If the instructor makes that decision the scheduled hours will be forfeit.
  • If the pupil fails to confirm by 9.00pm on the evening prior to commencement of the second day of the course that they are in a position to pay the balance of the course fee, the whole course will be cancelled and the deposit forfeit.

4.  Cancellation

  • If a booking is cancelled giving more than 30 days' notice, the deposit will be refunded after deduction of a cancellation fee of £40.  All cancellation requests must be made in writing by email to sam@intensivetuition.co.uk.  The cancellation fee will be deducted from the deposit and the balance refunded by bank transfer into a nominated bank account within 10 working days of receipt of the written request for cancellation.
  • Deposits are non-refundable for cancellation requests giving less than 30 days’ notice.
  • Course fees are non-refundable once the course has commenced.
  • In exceptional circumstances and strictly at our discretion, if the pupil is unable to complete part or all of the course, we may be able to reschedule the remaining course hours to a mutually convenient time, subject to availability.
  • Should the pupil wish to reschedule the course prior to the start date, this should be possible provided you give us at least 30 days’ notice prior to the scheduled start date.  We will use our best endeavours to accommodate your requested dates, subject to availability and at our complete discretion, but no guarantee is given.  If we are unable to reschedule your course to a mutually convenient time, our cancellation policy will apply.
  • Unfortunately we are unable to reschedule courses with less than 30 days’ notice and our cancellation policy will apply.

5.  Use of Tuition Vehicle for the Practical Driving Test

  • The pupil will be allowed to use the tuition vehicle free of charge for their practical driving test provided, in the instructor’s opinion, the pupil has reached a safe standard of driving.  Whilst every effort is made to get the pupil to test standard, if it is considered by the instructor at the end of the course that the pupil could be a danger to themselves, the DVSA examiner or the general public, then for safety reasons, use of the tuition vehicle for the test will not be permitted and the pupil will be advised accordingly.  The instructor’s decision is final.
  • If the instructor does not consider the pupil to have reached a safe standard of driving by the end of the course, the pupil is free to undertake further tuition either with the instructor or through a third party.  However if the pupil chooses to use a third party, they will need to schedule a minimum 2 hour assessment lesson with the instructor at least 5 working days prior to their practical test, so that the instructor can assess whether they are driving to a safe standard.  If, at the end of this assessment, the instructor still considers that the pupil is not yet at a safe standard of driving, the use of the tuition vehicle for the practical test will not be permitted.
  • If the instructor considers the pupil is unfit to drive on the day of the test, the pupil will not be allowed to use the tuition vehicle for their test and the test fee will be non-refundable.  The instructor's decision is final.

6.  The Practical Driving Test

  • The DVSA will not allow a practical driving test to be booked until the theory test has been passed.
  • We strongly recommend to all pupils that they leave a minimum of 3 clear working days between the end of the course and the practical driving test.  This allows time for the pupil to get some private practice or have extra tuition should they and/or their instructor feel that he/she is not yet ready to take their test.
  • When we book a driving test for a pupil, the pupil acknowledges that we are only acting as an intermediary between themselves and the DVSA and we have no control over or responsibility for the test fee once the booking has been confirmed.  We cannot be held responsible should the DVSA refuse to refund the test fee to the pupil upon cancellation or for any other reason.
  • Where we book a practical test for a pupil, we do not accept any responsibility should anything go wrong following confirmation of the booking, prior to the test or during the test process.
  • It is the pupil’s sole responsibility to ensure that they arrive for the test on time and with all the required documentation.

7.  Being on Time

  • When the instructor arrives at the pupil’s nominated pick-up point at the agreed time on each day of the course, if the pupil does not turn up for the lesson and there is no reply from that address, the instructor will wait a minimum of 15 minutes.  If the instructor is unable to contact the pupil and he/she does not turn up for the lesson during that 15 minute period, the instructor may at his discretion cancel that day’s tuition and those hours will be forfeit.
  • If the pupil does not contact us and fails to attend for a lesson on a second occasion, the remainder of the course and course fees may be forfeit and the course may be terminated at our discretion.
  • Course times are 8.30am until 3.30pm.  If these times are unsuitable for the pupil, alternative start and finish times may be arranged with the instructor's agreement prior to commencement of the course.
  • Following commencement of the course, if the pupil wishes to start the day later than 8.30am and/or finish earlier than 3.30pm any course hours not used during that day will be forfeit and no refund for those unused hours will be given.
  • If the pupil wishes to cancel all or any part of a day's training, with or without notice, once the course has commenced, those course hours will be forfeit and no refund for those unused hours/days will be given.

8.  Complaints

  • If a pupil has a complaint this should be detailed in writing by email to sam@intensivetuition.co.uk.
  • Following receipt of a complaint we will email the complainant back within 5 working days acknowledging the same.
  • The complaint will be fully investigated and a reply sent via email to the complainant with the outcome of our investigation within 28 days of the date of receipt of the complaint.
  • If the complaint was relating to the business service provided by us and, following receipt of the outcome of our investigation, the complainant is unhappy with our response they can contact their local Citizen's Advice Bureau for further advice.
  • If the complaint was relating to the instructor's professional service and, following receipt of the outcome of our investigation, the complainant is unhappy with our response they can contact the ADI Registrar by emailing adireg@dvsa.gov.uk.
  • Our driving instructors are members of the DIA (Driving Instructors Association) and as such are fully compliant with the ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) Code of Practice, a copy of which can be found by clicking here.

  • Any form of unreasonable, abusive or threatening behaviour (whether verbal or physical) directed towards the instructor will not be tolerated and the course may be terminated at the instructor's discretion.  In the event of termination any unused course hours will be forfeit and no fees will be refunded.
  • If, in the opinion of the instructor, the working relationship between the pupil and the instructor has irretrievably broken down, then the course may be terminated at the instructor's discretion.  In the event of termination any unused course hours will be forfeit and no fees will be refunded.
  • If, in the opinion of the instructor, the pupil is considered to be unsafe to drive, the pupil will forfeit the relevant course hours and fees.  The instructor’s decision is final.
